Every day seminarians rise before dawn to pray. Over 20,000 visitors walk through
the doors of St Mary’s Cathedral seeking God’s graces, and retired priests are cared
for, after a lifetime of service.

None of this happens by accident.

We thank our Defenders of the faith who choose, month after month, to make it possible. 

Monthly gifts are a display of sacrificial commitment to care for those we’re
called to support, all year round.

Seminary of the Good Shepherd

The Seminary of the Good Shepherd, forms the future priests of the Archdiocese of Sydney.

Formation unfolds over seven years, through the human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral stages that shape a man into a faithful priest.

It costs approximately $24,000 a year to form each seminarian.

As a Defender of the Faith, your monthly donation will give the Seminary something a single donation can’t: certainty. The assurance our Catholic community will walk alongside each seminarian from the beginning of his formation through to ordination.

For more than 150 years, St Mary's Cathedral has stood as the Mother Church of Australian Catholics, the place where families gather for baptisms, weddings and funerals, and where more than a million visitors and parishioners come to encounter God each year.

A heritage-listed building of this age and importance carries a scale of upkeep no single gift can fully answer: sandstone that weathers, windows that need conserving, and systems that must meet the needs of today's visitors.

As a Defender of the Faith, your monthly donation will give the Cathedral the dependable source of funding careful restoration requires.

Your generosity will support the godly encounters our Mother Church provides time and time again.

It will mean repairs can be staged properly, and the most urgent needs addressed first, so this sacred place remains safe, accessible and enduring for generations to come.

Priests' Retirement Foundation

The Priests' Retirement Foundation currently looks after 60 retired or sick priests, each requiring approximately $32,000 per year. And most, even in retirement, continue to serve wherever they are needed.

For every$ $1 you give, the archdiocese contributes $2, so your monthly gift will be tripled.  

As a Defender of the Faith, your monthly gift to the Priests' Retirement Foundation will provide more than immediate care; it will give us the ability to plan ahead. 

A steady, predictable stream of support means we can ensure each one of our priests receives the level of care his health and circumstances require. It also allows us to be better stewards of every donation the Foundation receives, directing funds where they are needed most.
